Team Work Tuesday

The definition of crazy may be  doing an activity involving an endless amount of spaghetti and marshmallows on a Tuesday afternoon right before parent interviews 😂😂 The classroom looked like a spaghetti explosion and students were covered in marshmallow dust but they enjoyed the activity, worked well in teams and cleaned up amazingly. They may have enjoyed one or two left over marshmallows at the end😀

A previous challenge involved 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 metre of sticky tape and one marshmallow which had to balance on the top of a free standing tower. This time they had a whole bag of marshmallows and unlimited spaghetti sticks in each team. The challenge was to build the tallest tower in 20 minutes.

The first few minutes I let them go to see their strategies. Then I stopped them to remind them that their tower had to stand up on its own so they really needed to think of ways or shapes to create a sturdy base. This made some groups change their strategies and we started to see a few teams experiment with cubes. We will explore some of these construction and engineering concepts before our next team Work Tuesday.
