Ok Final Blog post for tonight, sorry to bombard your email 🙂

Last week two notes went home. The first was a note about a new version of LearnLink the students will have access to. If this note could be signed and returned Tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest that would be great. The note is simple to acknowledge that you are aware of the new version and its features and are happy for your child to access this. Mr Blight will be collecting them as soon as possible  this week. Apologies you didn’t get it sooner ( you may have noticed the date on the note) They were caught between some books in my school bag. Once we have them back we will have a time booked in the computer room for students to log in with their username and password and send me an email.

The second note was about Easter Christian Option Seminars which will be running on Thursday. Year 3’s will be going at 9.15. This seminar is entirely voluntary, students can only attend if they have a signed permission slip. Any students not attending will remain in class with one or two of the year 3 teachers.

I hope everyone had a great weekend

See you tomorrow

Enterprise Day

Enterprise Day is fast approaching on Wednesday Week 11. For Enterprise Day we are working together with Room 18 to have a Sweets Stall. Each class will be making 4 simple treats to sell.

Our class has chosen to make Smiley face biscuits, Milo Balls ( I think they have changed to Tim Tam balls), Chocolate marshmallows and Chocolate moulds.

We have divided our class into 4 groups and on the Monday and Tuesday before Enterprise day we will make our sweet treats ready to sell.

In order to make our treats we are asking for donations. Perhaps if you are able to supply something to the group your child is in, any thing would be greatly appreciated.

The students have worked in their groups to make a list of what they will need. We don’t need a large amount. We are thinking at the most we will make 30 – 40 of each product. Everything in moderation 🙂

Smiley biscuits – 3 packets of arrowroot biscuits,  2 bags of lolly snakes, freckles, smarties, icing sugar and food colouring

Tim Tam Balls – 2 packets of Tim Tams, 2 tins of condensed Milk, coconut, chocolate sprinkles

Chocolate Marshmallows -3 or 4 bags of marshmallows, sprinkles, skewers,  White and Milk chocolate to melt –  1 block of each

Chocolate Moulds – Moulds (any design although Easter ones would be perfect) 4 Blocks of white Chocolate, 4 blocks of dark chocolate, Popping candy.

Any plastic platters or trays that we can put our finished products  on, would also be great also. Of course they will  be washed and returned to you.

Finally, if you are available next Monday or Tuesday ( I will let you know more specific times soon) We would love some parent help. Ideally I would love an adult to help with each group. While we have picked simple treats that don’t require cooking, we will need some adults to pop down to the staffroom to melt some chocolate and also to help each group run smoothly (make sure they don’t eat all the products lol ) 🙂

Trays! a breeding ground for mess 🙂

To encourage students to keep their belongings clean and tidy. Every now and then the Tray Fairy ( o.k it’s me😀)  will be doing spot checks of students trays. A clean tidy tray ensures things aren’t lost, which in turn helps students be responsible and organised ready for lessons.

Team Work Tuesday

The definition of crazy may be  doing an activity involving an endless amount of spaghetti and marshmallows on a Tuesday afternoon right before parent interviews 😂😂 The classroom looked like a spaghetti explosion and students were covered in marshmallow dust but they enjoyed the activity, worked well in teams and cleaned up amazingly. They may have enjoyed one or two left over marshmallows at the end😀

A previous challenge involved 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 metre of sticky tape and one marshmallow which had to balance on the top of a free standing tower. This time they had a whole bag of marshmallows and unlimited spaghetti sticks in each team. The challenge was to build the tallest tower in 20 minutes.

The first few minutes I let them go to see their strategies. Then I stopped them to remind them that their tower had to stand up on its own so they really needed to think of ways or shapes to create a sturdy base. This made some groups change their strategies and we started to see a few teams experiment with cubes. We will explore some of these construction and engineering concepts before our next team Work Tuesday.
