Well done to all the students that applied to be an SRC class representative. Thank you for trying something new and taking the time to apply. It was great to read out the applications to the class (anonymously)and have them vote for the application/person they felt had the qualities and skills needed to be a good SRC Rep. After very close voting results our Room 17 SRC Reps have been selected and their first meeting is this Friday.

Congratulations to Hudson, Thomas, Charlotte and Gemma

Last week students started to bring home readers. The level they are bringing home is based on their last reading assessment (running record) from 2016.
Ideally students should be reading their reader with an adult each night and recording it on the sheet in the back of their homework book. I encourage students when they have finished with a reader to swap it over as part of their morning organisation. The readers are located on the cupboard between room 16 and 17.
Those students who have completed the levelled readers ( level 30) are encouraged to borrow ‘good fit’ books from the library to read. This may be out loud to an adult or quietly to themselves.

On Friday a student in our class lost her hearing aid/earpiece. We have had a really good search of the classroom and yard and will continue to do so tomorrow but we are asking if parents can keep a look out. As it is quite small it could have easily been swept up in a book or pencil case without realising. The earpiece is a dusty pink and grey colour.

Thank you

Krista 🙂

I have just signed Room 17 up for a free version of Studyladder

Studyladder is a web based educational program designed by teachers. The program is curriculum based and covers Mathematics and Literacy as well as other subject areas, including NAPLAN practice activities. This will help reinforce what is being taught in the classroom. Your child can access a variety of activities and fun practice games as well as specific tasks set by Me. Study ladder will be used as part of their homework as well as something we can access during computer room time and even as activities for fast finishers.

Tomorrow students will come home with their username and password (it is optional to upgrade if you wish to give your child unlimited home access) As a parent you can join Studyladder for free if you wish to monitor your child’s progress.

To access Studyladder simply go to www.studyladder.com.au and login using your child’s username and password.

If your child has had a previous account you can recover their past rewards and points. Log in to their new account, click on MENU, select RECOVER POINTS and enter their old username/password.

On Friday Room 17 discussed the role of SRC and what is involved in being a SRC class representative. Students who were interested were then invited to take home an application along with a sheet outlining the roles and responsibilities of an SRC rep to work on at home.

These applications need to be handed in by Wednesday. On this day I will read each application without saying the name of who wrote it. Students will then vote on the four best applications (two reps for Semester 1 and two reps for Semester 2).

This year CLGPS are encouraging as many students as possible to experience SRC so any student that was an SRC Rep last year can’t apply.

I have attached a link to both sheets below in case any student forgot, or perhaps your child didn’t take one and you would really like them ‘have a go’ and try out.

I look forward to reading many great applications

Hello, and welcome to Room 17 and the 2017 school year. Our names are Krista Gill and Suzy Matthews and we will be your child’s teachers for this year. I (Krista) will be teaching Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Suzy will be teaching Thursday and Friday. While we are both relatively new to Colonel Light Gardens Primary School we each have over 12 years of experience, teaching in both country and metropolitan schools. We are also parents ourselves, myself, a mum of 3 and Suzy a mum of 1.

Our aim as your child’s teachers is to provide a safe, challenging and positive learning environment so the classroom is a place where they feel successful, happy and comfortable to take risks. We look forward to working with you and your children as a team, to continue their learning journey.

Over the next two weeks it will be a time where we get to know one another and focus on our school values, class expectations, Expert Learner qualities and the Play is the Way life rafts and games. It is also a time for us to become familiar with routines. Once we are settled we welcome you into the class to work with the children or to simply see how we work our way through the day.

We value frequent home school communication. It is our hope that this note will be the basis for a great deal of dialogue and communication. We’ll discuss what’s happening in our classroom, how we can best support and extend your child’s learning and ways you can support your child’s learning at home.

We look forward to meeting you at the upcoming Acquaintance night on Wednesday the 15th of February (week 3). Should you need to see us we are available before or after school or alternatively you can write a note in your child’s diary or email us directly at krista.gill758@schools.sa.edu.au or suzy.lawrence793@schools.sa.edu.au

We look forward to a positive school year with lots of fun to be had and challenging work to be accomplished.
